Profession of the Month - Nursing Assistant

Nursing Assistants are the key to the healthy life of patients. There are millions who got back their health by the caring, compassion and expertise of nursing assistants. Technological improvements do not do away with the importance of having that care for an individual, that response from another human being, which is what nursing perhaps defines most clearly.

Q: What is the length of the CNA training program?
A: 5 Weeks Monday thru Friday 9:00 until 3:00 with clinicals included in the 5 weeks 7:00am-3:30 pm. Clinicals are held at Seaford Center in Seaford, Delaware and Country Rest Home in Greenwood, Delaware.

Q: What skills will you gain by taking this course?
A: You will learn basic patient care (i.e, bathing dressing and feeding as well as vital signs).

Q: Cost of the program?
A: The CNA course is $2100 and all books supplies and tuition are included as well as Maryland and Delaware certification.

Q: Are there any pre-test needed?
A: No, we only require a high school diploma or a GED. If you are going thru the Department of  Labor no pre-testing or diploma is required.

Q: What if I don't have a high school diploma and I am not getting funding thru the Department of labor?
A: You must make an appointment to take the ABE (Adult Basic Assessment) exam Monday, Wednesday or Thursday between the hours of 9:00am and 1:30 pm. You must pay the $500 registration fee and complete and application prior to testing. If you are unsuccessful with the ABE test a FULL refund will be given on the same day as testing.

Q: How much homework is there?
A: You will have a minimum of 2-3 chapters of reading assignments per night.

Q: Do we provide tutoring?
A: Yes

Q: Do we provide financial aid?
A: Tri State does not participate with Title 4 funding but we are a provider for the Department of Labor in Delaware as well as offer financing thru Jeana Mae.

Q; What do I do if I want assistance from the Department of labor?
A: You need to call 302-856-5230 and speak with a case manager, once they approve you Tri State approves you.

Q: What kind of certification will I receive?
A: Once you complete 150 hours of training and pass your Delaware State exam you will be certified in the State of Delaware as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Q: How do I get a Maryland Certification?
A: If you are a student of Tri State just call 302-280-6803 and ask for paperwork assistance (you must call 24 hours in advance to receive these documents). If have been certified elsewhere, please call the Maryland Board of Nursing at 410-858-1900.

Q; How long is my Certification good for?
A: Delaware CNA certification is good for 2 years but you must complete 64 hours of work under the supervision of an RN or MD to re-certify.

Q: What if my Delaware license lapses?
A: You must the Delaware Division of Resident protection at 302-577-6666 and speak to the CNA coordinator.
